Okay, what we are doing in history(silently hisses at the teacher) is we are holding a trial for Joan of Arc. And guess what my job is!.... Defense attorny--the hardest. I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me come up with a defense for her to convice our jurors that she is innocent. In this time it was guilty till proven innocent. She is tried for Treason.

Joan of Arc was a woman that heard the voices of Saints Margaret, Catherine, and (another one who's name I can't remember) They told her that Charles VII is the rightful king of France, not Henry VI. Charles' father, Charles the VI was insane, but wrote something up saying that when he died the throne would pass to Henry.

The prosecuting is going to try to paint Joan as a crazy lunitic that heard voices, and was insane.

I am working on a defence--that will probably offend a couple of people--to make her sound not crazy. I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me mount another defence that Joan didn't commit treason because she was helping her king. I am toying around with saying that Charles VI was too crazy to know what he was doing when he signed away the throne.

i will think on it how soon do you need the help? then number one thing when your debating is to emphasize what you know to be fact and how you know that fact is fact. you should especially try and emphasize how you think king Charles VI was crazy when he dubbed the Henry guy king try to down play the fact that Joan is hearing voices and up play her loyalty to the true king. who cares if how she's getting her info? as long as her statements are true about the fact that the other Charles should be king. Any how that's my 2 cents i have a few friends who are in debate i'll ask them what they think and get back to you.

(by the way it's kind of weird that i would never use this thing i'm in higher classes then all of ya'll ha ha all well i don't mind helping out anyways)

That is a good idea. I also found that Henry died before crazy Charles, nullifying the treaty of troyes. That would mean that after Charles died, the name would pass to the closes male reletive, charles vii, the person that Joan helped acheive king hood. So, ya, she is innocent.

Okay, the treaty of Troyes was an agreement between Charles vi and Henry v that after charles vi died the french throne would go to Henry v, BUT Charles vii died after Henry v, so the french throne couldn't go to him. And sense the Salic law prevents the inheritence by a male through a female line, Henry vi had no right to the throne because Henry v never got it from Charles vi.

I already talked about it a bit... but I really liked it, besides the blushing and embarrasment. I am worried about my witnesses tomorrow though... they have no idea what they are doing.

yeah you need to have people that know what they are talking about if you want to win the trial

Ya, my witnesses did a bang up job of evening out the trial. Hopefully what goes on tomorrow--or rather today--will fix that. I am going to recall a few witnesses, and my closing statement is awesome... but long... I hate public speaking.

Oh, yesterday, the prosecution kept objecting because I was 'leading the witness' and I didn't get what that meant, so eventually I got irritated and I went up to redirrect and I look at my question. I had a vague idea of what 'leading the witness' meant, so I paused and said "Hold on, I have to think of how to reword this or SOMEONE will object." That is huge coming from me, because I am not like that. And I said it loud too.
it was so out of the ordinary that everyone started laughing, and someone said 'way to go casper!'

Ya, I lost the trial. But it was so funny, when I did my closing statements, after I finished, a few people burst into appludes...

ha ha so you know it's not like you didn't try to win you put up one hell of a fight!

I know. I am positive that I shocked the hell outta a few people--I gotta say this: Kornack, the teacher, sure picked the best attornies he chose the two quietest people in the class for the most vocal parts....--with how loud I was, and how much talking I did. Though the entire time I felt like I was either going to hurl or pass out.... one or the other...

it sucks, I hate being shy. You never know what to say, or feel it exactly nessicery to talk. I just plain feel awkward in conversations.
